WHAT IS THE CHARLOTTE AREA FUND?
The Charlotte Area Fund (CAF) is a non-profit corporation
and the designated community action agency serving the needs of
the poor in Mecklenburg County. Since 1963, CAF has provided low-income
citizens with a variety of programs which can help them become self-sufficient.
Maintaining and getting ahead takes more than luck. CAF can teach
you the skills you need. Whether you need help finding a job, learning
how to stretch your income, or reducing your energy bill each month,
CAF is here to help.

ANYONE ELIGIBLE FOR
THE PROGRAMS?
Since CAF receives State and Federal funds, you must
meet certain income guidelines to receive services. Individuals
seeking assistance or services from CAF must have a family income
which does not exceed 100% (CSBG Programs) and 150% (DOE-Weatherization
Programs) of the Federal poverty guidelines. These guidelines are
revised each year and are as follows:

For families with more than 4 persons, add $3,140
(CSBG Programs); and $4,710 (Weatherization/HARRP & SSP Programs)

To apply, bring proof of household income to our office.
Household family members include anyone living with you who is related
by birth, marriage or adoption. Proof of income may include paycheck
stubs for the past 90 days or 12 months, award letters for TANF(AFDC),
Social Security, SSI or Pension, Statement of Unemployment Benefits,
ChildSupport/Alimony, self employment and any other earned funds.
If you do not have any of these verifications, obtain
a benefit statement from the Employment Security Commission or a
statement from your employers telling us how much you were paid
in the last 12 months.
