The Charlotte Area Fund Brought Community Youth To Action During The 2019 Community Youth Development Summit

Charlotte, NC – The Charlotte Area Fund (CAF) partnered with the National Basketball Retired Players Association Chapters (NBRPA-Chapters) to present the 2019 Community Youth

Development Summit during NBA All-Star Week. Speaking with over 700 students, CAF, retired NBA legends and local community leaders embarked on a two-day, thought provoking tour to local high schools. This series of youth events also featured a tastemakers screening of Jump Shot; a new film from Executive Producer Steph Curry and a day-long Youth Development Summit.

Friday’s Community Youth Summit featured a variety of opportunities for youth to explore the fundamentals of seizing opportunities for success. It additionally featured a vendor fair focused on exciting programming available for area youth; various leadership breakout sessions and a panel discussion facilitated by basketball legends and Charlotte community leaders including Sheriff Gary McFadden. Over 100 students and 15 program partners participated in this event.

The week’s youth initiatives culminated with an All-Star Game Reception. Held at the Charlotte City Club, this opportunity allowed CAF to solidify relationships that were forged throughout the week. “The Charlotte Area Fund is proud to have joined with the NBRPA in its commitment to community action to directly impact the lives of young people and families,” said Nicholas Wharton, CAF President and CEO.
