Client M is a native of Washington, DC, was raised in Rock Hill, SCand relocated to Charlotte, NC approximately thirty-two years ago. Ms. M. is a former chef, restaurant owner, mother and grandmother who loves cooking while helping others.
The “B” Team
Mr. & Mrs. B came to the Charlotte Area Fund in December 2018, they came looking for a new opportunity. They were both working jobs and getting few hours and minimal pay. They knew there was help in the community to obtain training so they researched the city’s resources.
Mr. B came to Charlotte Area Fund(CAF) in March 2018as a result of a conversation with a counselor at the Urban Ministries soup kitchen about his future goals. At the time he was unemployed and staying at the Charlotte Men’s Shelter, which is located two blocks and across the street from CAF.
Meet Mejih Ache
Mejih came to Charlotte from West Africa with nothing but his luggage and a desire to fulfill his dreams of being a successful businessman and homeowner.He, learned about Charlotte Area Fund at a community resource fair held at the local Men’s Shelter.
La ‘Donna completed her Work Readiness training at the Charlotte Area Fund in December of 2017. This class helped in providing her with the skills needed to be productive in the work environment, while at the same time looking at jobs that offered career opportunities.
Mr. Hector left this job as a Hydro Blasting supervisor and moved to Charlotte from Mobile, Alabama with his fiancé. He was referred to come to CAF after he had been unsuccessful in finding full-time permanent work.
Julie came to the CAF in June 2, 2017. She had fallen on hard times and was looking for a new option. Due to her persistent attitude regarding completion of the Work Readiness classes, she was offered an opportunity to be considered for an apprenticeship with GOODWILL Industries in the Bistro, due to her culinary background.
