Charlotte Area Fund welcomes Mr. Nicholas Wharton as their new Interim Executive Director. Nicholas Wharton has extensive organizational development expertise building human
capital strategies across educational and corporate environments serving multi-generational populations. Wharton has lead premiere diversity access and equity change in K-12 public/private systems, higher education, and in the corporate sector. A staunch public policy advocate and leader for education and workforce development, Wharton’s efforts has transformed lives and families. A mindful diversity thought leader, he has strengthened global strategic partnerships with leaders in Europe, South Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. He has given numerous presentations and facilitated critical conversations on diversity leadership, educational opportunity, workforce development, organizational trust, gender equity, cultural competency, and strategic community engagement. Most recently, Wharton served as the Urban League of Central Carolina’s Interim CEO & President and Chief Operating Officer and previously as Chief Partnership Officer and COO. Wharton has held leadership roles with Wachovia Bank (Wells Fargo), Corning Incorporated, Charlotte Latin School, Ithaca City School District, Binghamton University, and Ithaca College. His community engagement involves serving on board of directors of several nonprofits including Vice Chair, Women’s Intercultural Ex-change Inc (WIE)/Co-Chair Men’s Champions, The Park Ministries Married Couples Ministry, WFAE-FM 90.7 NPR Affiliate, Chris Canty Foundation, the Diversity Forum, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department External Relations Committee, and Co-Chaired Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools African American Boys Task Force. Wharton has co-hosted the Worth Report, a financial planning radio show focusing on personal financial planning and diversity markets. He holds a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from the State University of New York at Cortland and a Master’s of Science in Organizational Communication from the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College. Nick is married to Regina Wharton, Senior HR Executive with Fifth Third Bank. They have three adult children and attend The Park Church.
